How We Got Here
Bringing fast, fiber internet to the far reaches of the Midwest is no small task. The thing is, we didn’t get into broadband because we wanted to start a business in Missouri. We started a business because we wanted to provide broadband to the Midwest.
2026
Socket accelerates its growth momentum, expanding its fiber network footprint and adding high‑speed internet access to over 75,000 new homes across Missouri and Illinois
2025
Socket serves over 45,000 customers across 31+ cities and continues rapid fiber expansion throughout the Midwest.
2017
Socket reached the milestone of 1000+ lit fiber businesses.
2011-2012
Construction on a brand new fiber-optic network begins in late 2011, with a mission to reach homes and businesses in rural Callaway County and Fulton. In May 2012, Socket installs its first residential Fiber Internet customer.
2007
Socket continues to expand, relocating to it's current Clark Ln office. Residential teleVoice service and Naked DSL internet were introduced, resulting in additional growth.
2002
Socket had more than 30,000 customers and relocated to two office spaces in downtown Columbia.
1994
Socket is founded by George Pfenenger and John Dupuy, with a goal to provide telecommunication services throughout the Greater Columbia, Missouri market.

Who We Are
Socket was founded in 1994 with a simple idea: that Missouri deserved a local, reliable internet provider focused on people rather than bureaucracy. What started as a small operation in Columbia has grown into one of Missouri’s largest locally owned telecommunications companies, built on technical expertise, responsive service, and a commitment to doing things the right way. Over the years, we’ve expanded from basic internet access to a full suite of advanced communications services, all supported by a team that lives and works in the communities we serve.
Today, Socket delivers fast, reliable fiber internet to more than 90,000 homes across 21+ counties, as well as robust data and voice solutions for businesses, government, healthcare, education, and critical institutions. Our network is engineered for strength and redundancy, backed by our 24/7 local support team and in-house construction and utility locating crews. As a nimble, customer-focused provider, we believe that bigger isn’t always better-better is better. And we’re proud to provide the dependable, locally rooted service our customers count on every day.
