What causes service outages?
B
C
While our fiber network is built to be incredibly reliable, occasional outages can happen for several reasons:
- Weather-related issues - Severe storms, high winds, or ice can sometimes damage fiber lines or cause power outages that affect our equipment
- Planned maintenance - We occasionally need to perform scheduled maintenance to keep your service running at peak performance. We always notify customers in advance when possible
- Construction accidents - Sometimes construction crews accidentally damage underground fiber lines while digging (that's why State laws require calling 811 before digging!)
- Equipment issues - Like any technology, network equipment can occasionally fail, though our fiber infrastructure is designed with redundancy to minimize these impacts
- Power outages - Extended power outages in your area can affect network equipment, even though our main facilities have backup power systems
How long do outages typically last?

Outage duration depends on the cause. Most issues are resolved quickly, but severe weather or construction damage may take longer. Call us at 1-800-SOCKET-3 for a specific estimate.
