Thrill on the Hill - Socket Sponsors the 2017 Mid Missouri Soapbox Derby

the socket soapbox derby car

The Socket Rocket made another appearance this year at the Mid Missouri Soap Box Derby in downtown Columbia, flying down a large blocked-off section of Broadway. Our driver this year, Elizabeth Connon, inherited the car from her older brother Michael, who has been racing it the past few years.

She and her competition were racing for a spot at the International Soap Box Derby in Akron, OH. This is Socket's seventh year sponsoring the Mid Missouri Soap Box Derby, which teaches the kids about sportsmanship, science, technology, engineering, math, and basic safe driving skills.

We love watching the cars in action, and congrats to all the racers who participated this year!

Socket Visits the MASA Conference

We just got back from this year's Spring MASA (Missouri Association of School Administrators) Conference at the Lodge of Four Seasons down at the Lake of the Ozarks. As an official business associate member of the association, we look forward to this event each spring as a time to touch base with both current and potential customers.

It was great to catch up with the administrators, principals, superintendents, and people that make education in Missouri. We had the chance to talk to school district officials about our discount voice and internet services we can provide over the Department of Education's E-Rate Program.

Socket Dives into Polar Plunge

A brave group of Socketeers made a valiant late-winter dip into Bass Pro Lake this weekend. Unfortunately, we can report that despite the unusually warm weather we had on Saturday, the water in Bass Pro Lake was still pretty cold!

The good news is that this swim was for a great cause, as our group braved the waters for Special Olympics Missouri.

Socket Participates in 6th Annual Float Your Boat

Float Your Boat is a community-focused event that allows teams to build boats solely out of cardboard, decorate them uniquely, and then race them across the lake in hopes that they don't sink before they cross the finish line. Unfortunately, we can report that despite the unusually warm weather we had on Saturday, the water in Bass Pro Lake was still pretty cold!

Still, we were happy to participate in the Float your Boat event in support of the Food Bank of Central and Northern Missouri. While we didn't come away with a trophy once again, we had a great time!

2017 Columbia Business Showcase

Yesterday, Socket attended the Columbia Business Showcase put on by the Chamber of Commerce. We had a great time, as always, at the Holiday Inn Executive Center networking with local businesses and community members, many of whom were already happy customers. While there, our representatives also fielded questions about fiber, hosted phone systems, and internet in general.

If you missed us there, but still had some questions about our Fiber network or Cloud services, don’t fret! We’re happy to help you out – just give us a call at 1-800-SOCKET-3, or visit our Get-a-Quote page to request a quote for your business.

Socket Once Again Sponsors the True/False Film Festival

Continuing our long-standing partnership with the True/False Film Festival and it's sister arthouse theater Ragtag Cinema, Socket is proud to once again be the Official Telecommunications Provider of the Festival.

This year's event was once again a major success as it set yet another record for ticket sales at 52,400 stubs collected! The 2017 T/F Festival got national attention as it received critical praise from handful of major national publications including Paste Magazine, The Chicago Tribune, and the Los Angeles Times.

Fall 2016 Adopt-A-Spot Cleanup

Yesterday, 15 Socket volunteers cleaned up Clark Lane for our final Adopt-A-Spot cleanup before the winter season. The area outside our office is looking a lot cleaner now that it is free of trash and litter.

We collected a total of 25 bags of trash and one worn out tire from the roadside. Our community involvement would not be possible without our awesome employees so thank you to everyone who volunteered!

Socket Sponsors the Countdown to Kickoff!

Socket was a proud sponsor of the 2016 Countdown to Kickoff fundraiser that took place on August 24. The fundraiser benefited Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Missouri. The evening was presented by Columbia Insurance Group and the University of Missouri Football Program and consisted of live and silent auctions, as well as remarks from Coach Barry Odom regarding the Tigers’ upcoming season.

As a sponsor for this year’s fundraiser, Socket was able to contribute to the proceeds raised for disadvantaged children in Mid-Missouri. Thanks to the silent and live auction as well as generous donations, a total of 110 children will be supported from an adult role model over the next year in the Big Brother Big Sister program.
