Socket to close Jefferson City office to invest in fiber expansion

Socket has announced it will close its Jefferson City retail space on March 23, in order to invest further in the expansion of its fiber network throughout the city.

The Columbia-based internet and telecommunications provider says it’s seen declining traffic to the location in recent years. Customers can continue to receive the same customer service and support online or via telephone. Socket will relocate the two staff members from the Jefferson City location to its Columbia office, and the company believes the funds spent operating the office will be better utilized for further network expansion in Jefferson City.

“Our customers are doing amazing things with fiber technology, and we’ve seen the impact that has had on local businesses and the economy,” said George Pfenenger, CEO and co-owner of Socket. “This change will help us bring high-speed fiber broadband to as much of Jefferson City as we possibly can.”

With speeds up to one gigabit per second or even faster, fiber-optic technology is the fastest, most reliable connection available. Its large bandwidth capacity is considered future-proof and will accommodate increased internet usage for decades to come.

Socket is currently wrapping up an expansion project in the Old Munichburg area, and recently began construction on another project this month along and near Missouri Blvd. between West Stadium Blvd. and Dix Rd.

Socket also plans to bring residential fiber service to Jefferson City this year, and is currently seeking an area with high demand to begin that initiative. Residents can express interest in high-speed fiber internet at www.socket.net/fiberhood.

“We’re excited about what the future holds for us in Jefferson City,” said Pfenenger. “These expansion projects are just the beginning.”
