Google Makes Waves With Project Glass

A pair of futuristic glasses that can stream live video and provide  “augmented reality”? It sounded like an April Fool’s joke at first.

But Google isn’t kidding.

Their new product, tentatively (and dramatically) named “Project Glass,” doesn’t yet have a release date or price. But their recent product demonstration already has people clamoring for more info and it is the buzz of all the tech blogs online.

As part of a product demo, Google outfitted some extreme sports professionals with the glasses. Attendees at the demonstration were able to watch live, first-person views of skydives, bike jumps, and perhaps most startlingly, rappellers attached to the conference building.

But the true selling point of the glasses? Their internal, transparent Heads Up Display (HUD). By looking through the glasses, you can overlay digital images and text over your field of vision. Look at a restaurant and you’ll see reviews and prices next to the building. Shop for groceries and you’ll see sale items highlighted.

It’s not quite how James Bond would use them, but it’s easy to visualize him wearing a pair.

“Project Glass” is expected to be a revolutionary piece of technology that has to be seen to be believed. Watch Google’s presentation and see the glasses in action:
