Socket Telecom, a Columbia-based technology company, will host an official groundbreaking as its fiber-to-the-home project launches into Millersburg, Mo. Socket’s rural fiber project will mean local homes, businesses, schools, health care facilities and churches will have access to the latest in communication, information and entertainment technology. Additionally, this project will provide robust services that have the ability to adapt and advance with the ever-changing landscape of information technology needs. Socket partnered with the State of Missouri in the MoBroadbandNow initiative to obtain the federal funding. The broadband project is funded by a combination loan and grant totaling $23.7 million which are part of the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
Governor Nixon, Socket leadership and local business owners will all be on-hand for interviews after the formal presentation. Additionally, a directional boring machine will be in use for media members interested in seeing the type of equipment used to construct parts of the fiber project.
