Content Filtering
Socket offers businesses Content Filtering on dial-up accounts, which filters the viewable content on the Internet removing information or images that are deemed inappropriate or indecent.
Socket’s Content Filtering is added to an existing business dial-up account
for an additional $2.00/month.
Call 1-800-SOCKET-3 or e-mail office@socket.net to sign up.
E-mail filtering is included in Socket’s Content Filter. You will be able to manage the content filter so it only receives e-mail from a list of addresses that are company-approved.
How Socket’s Content Filter works…
1) The filter disallows access to all Internet resources including FTP, Chat, ICQ, etc. The filter only allows standard web access and e-mail.
2) The filtered account is given access to Socket's e-mail servers and proxy server. Web access using a filtered account must go through the proxy server because this is where the actual filtering takes place.
3) Once the connection is established requests for web pages are sent to the proxy server, which then checks the page and its contents against a database. If a page is flagged as containing harmful content, it is either entirely blocked or the content within the page is censored.
Socket’s Content Filter will block the sites included in the following categories:
Nudity: The absence of clothing or exposing any and all parts of the human genitalia.
Exceptions: "Classical" nudity (Michelangelo)
Adult Content: Any material that has been publicly labeled as being strictly for adults.
Sex: Description or depiction of sexual acts and any erotic material.
Violence: Graphic depiction of violent acts including murder, rape, torture and/or serious injury.
Adult Language: Excessive Crude and vulgar language or gestures.
Crime: Encouragement of, tools for, or advice on carrying out universally criminal acts.
Network Abuse: Sites that encourage or participate in the misuse or abuse of the Internet.
Socket offers support for Windows 95,98, NT, 2000, ME, and XP systems. You must be running Internet Explorer 5.0 or newer along with Outlook 5.0 or newer to manage the access.
Limited Macintosh OS support is available.
Windows 3.1 machines do not have the software capability for Socket to support Content Filtering.
