Child Safe Access FAQ

Q: Do I have to buy another Internet account to get Child Safe Access?

A: No, Socket can add a child safe account onto an existing Internet account. However, you do need to have two e-mail addresses set up on the account. The child’s user name and password will be different, but you will only be billed $2.00 more per month.

Q: What system do I need to use child safe access?

A: Socket offers support for Windows 95,98, NT, 2000, ME, and XP systems. You must be running Internet Explorer 5.0 or newer along with Outlook 5.0 or newer to manage the access. Limited Macintosh OS support is available.

Windows 3.1 machines do not have the software capability for Socket to support child safe access.

Q: How can I manage my child’s e-mail?

A: Socket gives you the ability to set up a list of acceptable incoming addresses. Any incoming e-mails that are not on this list will be automatically forwarded to your e-mail address to be reviewed.

To set up your acceptable list, please call technical support at 1-800-SOCKET-3.

Q: What web content does Socket filter?

A: The general categories of sites included in the Adult Site List are:

Nudity: The absence of clothing or exposing any and all parts of the human genitalia.

Exceptions: "Classical" nudity (Michaelangelo)

Adult Content: Any material that has been publicly labeled as being strictly for adults.

Network Abuse: Sites which encourage or participate in the misuse or abuse of the Internet, e.g. e-mail spam.

Q. Does Socket guarantee that all objectionable material will be filtered?

A: There is a minimal chance that Socket’s Child Safe Access can be bypassed. Socket promotes monitoring your child’s Internet access along with the Child Safe Filter.
